Abstract: With the increase in meat consumption in Brazil and worldwide, the need for studies that allow for the improvement of quality parameters, fundamental for the domestic and export markets, intensifies. Carcass characteristics, such as ribeye area (REA), widely used as an indicator of muscle mass and yield, directly influence consumer acceptability and economic return to the producer. However, the variability of these attributes results from complex molecular processes, still poorly understood in beef cattle. In this context, genomic approaches have advanced in understanding the molecular mechanisms that influence productive characteristics. Among these mechanisms, microRNAs (miRNAs) stand out. These are small non-coding molecules of 19 to 23 nucleotides that modulate gene expression through silencing. Because they act in multiple metabolic pathways, including muscle fiber differentiation, energy metabolism, and intramuscular fat deposition, miRNAs represent central candidates to explain individual differences in meat composition and quality. However, its function in phenotypes of zootechnical interest remains underexplored, especially in the Nelore breed, which forms the basis of the Brazilian herd and stands out for its hardiness, adaptability, and good carcass performance. Given this scenario, investigating the relationship between miRNA profiles and productive characteristics becomes essential to advance the understanding of the mechanisms that (REA). The objective was to analyze the differential expression of miRNAs and their association with REA in Nelore cattle. The animals originated from the São Marcelo farm (Tangará da Serra-MT). Samples of the Longissimus thoracis muscle were collected for RNA-seq analysis and REA measurement. REA was determined by the grid method and expressed in cm². From a set of 189 Nelore animals, 5 animals with the highest REA and 5 with the lowest REA were selected to compose the extreme groups included in the analyses. After extracting total RNA from selected animals, miRNA libraries were constructed and sequenced on the Illumina NextSeq500 platform. Analyses included quality control (FastQC), processing (Cutadapt), miRNA identification and quantification (miRDeep2), and differential expression (DESeq2). Target gene prediction was performed using miRWalk, followed by functional enrichment using DAVID 6.8. A total of 317 miRNAs were obtained, with only two miRNAs showing significant differential expression (padj < 0.1): bta-mir-184, which was more highly expressed in the larger AOL group, and bta-mir-2285ba-1, which was less expressed in that group. The bta-mir-184 strain presented (n = 29) predicted target genes and the bta-mir-2285ba-1 strain presented (n = 4,470) predicted target genes, which were enriched in terms related to transcriptional regulation, ncRNA-mediated silencing, and cell proliferation pathways, including the Relaxin Signaling Pathway, potentially associated with muscle development. These findings indicate that post-transcriptional regulation mediated by miRNAs may directly contribute to the phenotypic variability of (REA) in Nelore breed.

Abstract: It is a fact that the equestrian population in Brazil and around the world has expanded greatly in recent decades. Used both for work and mainly for leisure and sport, they bring about a turnover of around 3 billion reais per year in Brazil. As a result, along with agricultural advances and the deprivation of their eating habits of long periods of grazing, horses have undergone major changes in their natural lifestyle, becoming increasingly stable and receiving various dietary sources of preserved bulky feed. The reflection of these changes often results in gastrointestinal diseases, such as equine colic, due to their complex and sensitive gastrointestinal tract. Given this reality, this work discusses the influence of sources of bulky hay or corn silage on acute abdominal conditions in horses with the aim of analyzing the incidence of colic treated at the hospital in Araxá-MG according to the diet offered. For this, literary-scientific research, questionnaires and data analysis were carried out. This methodology allowed us to verify that in the period from January to December 2023 in the veterinary hospital, the highest incidence of colic was in animals fed with hay.

Abstract: Biotechnologies have been increasingly adopted in agriculture to enhance ceop profitability and sustainability. Soybean, a crop of major economic importance, has been the subject of numerous studies aimed at improving its growth and productivity, particularly through the use of beneficial soil microorganisms. Bacteria and other microorganisms can promote growth and provide protection against different types of stresses; however, understanding their interactions and compatibility is essential, as inadequate management may compromise their effectiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the interaction among beneficial microorganisms and their effects on soybean growth and productivity. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at Professor Edson Antônio Velano University (UNIFENAS), using 18 dm³ plastic pots filled with soil and the soybean cultivar exact 64IX60RSF I2X. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design in a factorial scheme 2 × 5, consisting of two inoculation treatments [Bradyrhizobium japonicum and B. japonicum + Azospirillum brasilense] and five Bacillus treatments (Bacillus aryabhattai, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus megaterium, applied individually or combined as a Bacillus mix), with three repetitions per treatment. Seed inoculation was performed at the Soil Microbiology Laboratory (LMS) of UNIFENAS. The control treatments consisted of inoculation with B. japonicum alone and B. japonicum + A. brasilense. The experiment was conducted for 115 days, after which the plants were harvested and evaluated for their agronomic and nutritional characteristics. The results demonstrated positive effects of microbial inoculation on the agronomic variables assessed, particularly plant height, root length, number of grains per pod and yield. These findings indicate that the application of microorganisms contributed to improvements in both vegetative growth and productive performance of soybean. Furthermore, the interaction among microorganisms favored both the vegetative and reproductive development of plants, resulting in increased productivity.

Abstract: Pastures in Brazil are based on the grass Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu, which is adapted to soils of medium and high fertility. The use of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms still lacks sufficient research and established guidelines. Given this, the objective is to evaluate the effects of different methods of inoculation and co-inoculation of plant growth-promoting bacteria on the growth and development of U. brizantha cv. Marandu. The experiment was conducted using a factorial design with 3 treatments (inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense, mix 1, and mix 2) × 3 application methods (seed-applied, foliar, and seed-plus-foliar), totaling nine combinations. In addition, two controls (positive and negative) were included. Mix 1 and Mix 2 were derived from the combination of six bacterial strains from the collection of the Soil Microbiology Laboratory at Professor Edson Antônio Velano University. The plants were evaluated for height, dry matter (DM%), yield (t/ha), and root biomass in three consecutive harvests, as well as crude protein (CP%). Inoculation influenced plant height, dry matter, yield, root system, and crude protein content. The treatment that yielded the highest responses was foliar inoculation with A. brasilense, standing out in terms of yield, root system, and dry matter accumulation. The combination of seed + foliar application also performed well, especially for the Mix 1 and Mix 2 inoculations. The treatment that yielded the lowest yields was foliar application of Mix 2, which resulted in lower dry matter and suboptimal protein content.
