Abstract: The medicine dehumanization has been largely attributed to the medicine schools, which privilege scientific aspects to the detriment of those theoreticians and focus on the humanism. The medicine schools were driven to review their curricula, emphasizing disciplines and organizing interventions for recovering of the humanism in medical practice. The general objective of the dissertation was to identify the actions proposed or developed in medicine courses for resumption of humanization in the medical practice. The specific objectives were to highlight the main attributes of the humanism and to describe the main educational interventions adopted for the humanism development in medical practice. A systematic revision of the literature was carried out for the attainment of the study objectives, by means of researching in the databases of the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature and Pub Med, from 2010 to 2016, in Portuguese and English languages. The research resulted in the selection of 23 publications. The results showed that the humanism main attribute is the empathy, which the schools of medicine are developing as main actions the changes in the curriculum of the courses. The main educational implemented actions involve, besides the curricular changes, exchanges and extension programs, through the inclusion of new disciplines, the use of play activities and cultural contexts that are distinct from those of the students' origin. It was concluded that the range of the measures is still small, considering the universe of the medicine courses and its lack of results for more objective analysis.

Abstract: Parthenogenesis has been described as an alternative method to produce embryos for studies with embryonic cells, particularly in humans which have a restriction of fertilized embryos. Procedures used in parthenogenesis are also required to produce embryos by somatic cell nuclear transfer in domestic species. However, many biological, cellular and molecular aspects of parthenogenetic embryos are still unknown. This study aimed to compare the kinetics of development, apoptosis rate and gene expression of stress and celular metabolism in bovine parthenogenetic embryos and embryos fertilized in vitro. Oocytes (n = 1541) obtained from slaughterhouse ovaries were matured in vitro and submitted to parthenogenetic activation (4.62 µM ionomycin for 5 min followed by 2 mM 6-DMAP for 4 h) or in vitro fertilization (2 x 106 sperm/mL for 20h with semen from a single departure). 72h postactivation/fertilization (hpaf), embryos (8-cell) were frozen for subsequent analysis of gene expression and another part has been separated into groups of high or low potential of development: Part ≥ 8 - parthenogenetic embryos with 8 or more cells (high development potential); Part < 8 - embryos less than 8 cells (low development potential); ≥ 8 IVF - in vitro fertilized embryos with 8 or more cells; and IVF < 8 - embryos with less than 8 cells. Embryos were cultured in CR2aa medium with 2.5% BFS in 5% CO2, 5% O2, 90% N2 at 38.5° C and were evaluated rates of blastocyst 168hpaf (D7) and 196hpaf (D8). 8-cell embryos obtained after 72hpfa were analyzed for gene expression. D8 blastocysts were fixed and subsequently apoptotic index was analyzed by TUNEL. Data were compared by analysis of variance and means by Student Newman Keuls test. Gene expression was evaluated by REST® software. Values are shown as mean ± standard error. Embryos with 8 or more cells produced higher (P < 0.01) blastocysts rates in D7 and D8 compared to embryos with less than eight cells, showing its greatest development potential, regardless if they were parthenogenetic or fertilized. Embryos of Part ≥ 8 group had higher (P <0.05) blastocyst rate in D7 (63.6 ± 3.4%) than IVF ≥ 8 (45.3 ± 8.9%), but at D8 rate was similar (56.7 ± 3.0% and 44.2 ± 8.9% for Part ≥ 8 and IVF ≥ 8, respectively; P <0.05). There was no difference (P < 0.05) on blastocyst rates at D7 and D8 between embryos with less than 8 cells derived from parthenogenesis or fertilization. There was no difference in total cell number (92.0 ± 3.4, 102.30 ± 4.8), apoptotic cells (10.8 ± 1.22, 9.5 ± 1.07) and apoptotic index (11.4 ± 1.27, 9.8 ± 1.8) for parthenogenetic and IVF blastocysts, respectively. In 8-cell embryos analyzed, there was a subexpression of genes DNAJB1, HSPA1L, HSF1 and GLUT1 for Part in relation to FIV, while HSF2 was overexpressed in Part compared to FIV. In conclusion, bovine parthenogenetic embryos differ to embryos fertilized in vitro in hability of preimplantation development in vitro and gene expression, which may limit the use of parthenogenesis in studies of embryonic development.

Abstract: This study assessed the of effects the application of cloprostenol in postpartum dairy goats. Twenty-nine Anglonubian goats were used, evenly divided into two groups. The control group received 0.5 ml of saline (0.9%) and group PGF2 0.133 mg cloprostenol in two intramuscular applications on day 1 (D1) and four (D4) PP. The reproductive tract of the animals was assessed by transrectal ultrasound with a linear, 5.0 MHz on days 1, 4, 10, 16, 22, 28, 34, 40 and 46 postpartum. The uterine diameter, cervical diameter, volume of the intrauterine contents and uterine position were measured. In four animals from each treatment the endometrial thickness and diameter of the two larger follicles present in the ovary were evaluated, and vaginoscopy revealed the presence and aspect of the cervical mucus. The data were tested using the ANOVA analysis of variance and the averages (uterine diameter and endometrial thickness), by the Tukey test. The position of the uterus was assessed by the X2 test (chi-square). The body condition score and volume of intrauterine contents were evaluated with the nonparametric Wilcoxon test. All parameters were considered significant at 5% probability level. The uterine diameter behaved differently between the groups. In the PGF2 group there was a marked reduction in uterine diameter until day 22 PP (3.5 ± 0.6 cm) and the control group until day 28 PP (3.6 ± 0.8 cm). The expulsion of uterine contents was earlier in PGF2 group (D40), and on D46 in the control group. Likewise, the presence of cervical mucus was earlier in PGF2 group (D34) compared to control group (D40). The follicular growth did not differ between the groups, the maximum average diameters were 5.1 ± 0.3 mm at 28 dpp for the PGF2 group and 5.2 ± 0.4 mm at 22 dpp for the control group. The results suggest that cloprostenol acts beneficially in the process of uterine involution and expulsion of uterine contents.

Abstract: The production of bovine embryos had a pronounced increase in the last decade. In Brazil, this increase was directly related to the improvement of the in vitro embryo production, particularly in dairy cattle. The present experiment used the transvaginal ultrasound-guide for ovarian follicle aspiration (TGFA) and in vitro embryo production in Gyr cattle (dairy zebu breed) to assess the potential of the donator for oocyte and embryo production. Data from a private company (Biotran Alfenas, MG - Brazil), recovered for the last three years were included in this study. Cows were supplemented with corn silage and a mixture of corn, soybean, vitamin and minerals, according to their nutritional requirements. The ovarian follicular wave was synchronized 5 days before TGFA. Briefly, auricular implant and intramuscular injections of 3 mg of estradiol benzoate and 0.530 mg of sodium cloprostenol. The TGFAs were performed according to the same basic procedures: using the ultrasound device (Pie-Medical Esaot Akila) and a vacuum system (pressure of 80 mmHg) with a disposable 20G needle in one extremity and a collector tube (50 ml) in the other. Only TGFAs with at least one oocyte recovered were considered, and a total of 178 TGFAs sessions from different Gyr cows (≥ 60 days after parturition) were used. The recovered oocytes were classified according to the cumulus cells layers and cytoplasm aspect. Sex-sorted (X) semen with proved fertility was used for in vitro fertilization and embryo production. According to the total recovered oocytes the cows were ordered in one of the 4 quartiles, with the top 25% (1st quartile), the median 50% (2nd and 3rd) and the bottom 25% (4th quartile). The average of recovered oocyte (total, viable and unviable), total embryo and the number of pregnancies produced in each TGFA session were compared between the first and the fourth quartiles. Conversion rates (%) of the total and viable oocytes to embryo, viable oocytes to pregnancy and embryo to pregnancy were also performed. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA (9.2 Version; SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA). Differences between the first and fourth quartiles were accessed by Student s t-test and frequency data were evaluated by Fisher s Exact test. The production of oocytes and embryos, and the number of pregnancies (mean ± SD by session) were higher (P< 0.0001) in the animals of the first quartile (41.6 ± 10.6 vs 6.7 ± 3.1 oocytes; 29.1 ± 11.0 vs 4.5 ± 2.7 viable; 8.6 ± 5.7 vs 1.8 ± 1.8 embryos). The rate of pregnancy was 46.0%, 44.9%, 43.9% and 45.6% for the I; II; III and IV respective. The conversion rate of the viable oocytes to embryo was greater (P< 0.03) in animals from the fourth quartile (51.1 vs 31.9%). The interpretation was that for Gyr breed the animals with high donator potential produce in average 40 viable oocytes and 8 embryos in each session of the TGFA. The data suggest that the selection of the animals with high potential for oocyte production can improve the absolute but not relative number of the in vitro embryos produce.
